P M S
(Parked Motorcycle Syndrome)
We all get it, but let us show you how to deal with it!!
First I would like to tell you a little bit about us.
PMS
My husband get this illness every year. Depending on the weather, it sometimes starts as early as November! Makes for a long, long winter!!.
So read on so we can tell you how to cure this ‘syndrome’ and at the same time, see some new sites, ride yourmotorcycle, and not have to worry about your motorcycle when you are not there.
I, Brian, started riding motorcycles when I was at the age of twelve. At the age of fifteen I started my first job. I couldn’t believe it, life couldn’t get any better. My first job was a delivery job in the optical field, where I could deliver with my motorcycle. It was hard to believe that somebody would pay me to ride the motorcycle, and at that age, foolish enough to ride all year around. In my spare time I would learn how to grind optical lenses and thus my career started. I have been in the optical laboratory my whole life and in 1981, my wife and I started our own business. We have been married for 37 years this May, and our hobby is – riding motorcycles. I built my own motorcycle at the age of 16 (an Indian) and have maintained my own motorcycles. At present I am rebuilding a 2006 Honda Gold Wing that I purchased from an insurance company. It will be on the road this spring!
We tried for 4 years to store our motorcycle in the South US states so that we could fly down 4 or 5 times during the winter and tour around. All we could get at the time was a storage unit and guess what? - problems – taxi left – and the battery was dead.
We are avid bike riders, love to take roads that are back roads, but paved and have put on approximately 400,000 km since 1995.
WE HAVE THE PMS SOLUTION!!
We have property in Alamogordo, New Mexico.
Now I know your first thought is, where is that and what can we do there? You can ride your motorcycle in September, and fly down on your time schedule through the winter and:
RIDE! RIDE! RIDE!
There are:
- Fantastic motorcycling roads
-2 days to California
- 1 – 2 days to Corpus Christie, Texas and South Padre Island
- 5 hours to Phoenix
- 2 hours into Mexico
Alamogordo , New Mexico , an Undiscovered Area
Just before the turn of the century, Alamogordo began as a trade center for ranchers, farmers and the lumber industry. Since World War II this town has become a scientific and defense oriented city. Near Alomogordo is Holloman Air Force Base a major facility. Alamogordo has a pleasant year round climate, practically pollution free, good hotels, motels, restaurants, campgrounds and all service facilities for travelers.
With White Sands National Monument on one side and the mountains on the other, tourism has become a major industry.
White Sands is southwest of town on US70and covers miles of big, glistening white gypsum dunes.
The International Space Hall of Fame is a giant cube of golden glass set in concrete pillars. Trinity Site, toward the north end of White Sands Missile Range marks ground zero where the first atomic bomb was detonated in 1945.
La Luz, four miles northeast of Alamogordo is the oldest settlement in the Tularosa Basin. Founded in 1705 by Spaniards, it is now a quiet plaza surrounded by a few old adobe buildings, homes and artist studios.

New Mexico ’s weather is dramatic and exciting. We don’t promise you’ll always love it, but it will definitely be better than the white snow, and we promise that it will never bore you!
Remember some of the cities and towns in New Mexico (especially the northern part) have elevations of 10,000 feet, so like in the early spring in Alberta, B.C. these may be not the best place to travel on the motorcycle as there is snow at these high elevations, but not to worry, our location is right on the desert, mountain line, so either way the riding is great! The locals have told us that there isn’t a day that they cannot ride in Alamogordo, although some days they may not be able to start until 11 am. But then you have to consider what they think bad or cold weather is!!!
The state’s southern latitude and high elevations make a sunny, relatively mild, dry climate. The sun is often hot but the air is usually cool. Typical summer daytime temps range fro 26 to 38C and lower elevations and to the 20’s and 30’s C at higher elevations. Remember, 26C with low humidity is crisp and invigorating, great for wonderful motorcycle ride! Not real hot where 26C in a humid climate would be unbearable for us!!
In the fall, aspens light up the mountainsides with living gold from roads out of Cloudcroft. Take a scenic tour from Cloudcroft to Ruidoso across the Mescalero Apache Reservation, the mountainous country where cattle graze the valleys. The road is paved and the ride is terrific! Motorcycling
Let the weather be part of your fun as you travel New Mexico. Watch big cumulus clouds pile up like whipped cream on mountain peaks. Marvel at the perfect double rainbows, nature’s promise to ‘be good’. Any time of the year, see the unbelievable colors of the sky – turquoise, sky blue, even purple. At sunrise and sunset the brilliance makes your heart ache – it is more than man deserves. Enjoy it while you are enjoying your motorcycle during the winter months.
Enjoy your motorcycle all year round and get rid of that PMS!!!!
